Looking For Beer Gifts? Check Out A Kegerator!
By GoingOnline
Looking for that perfect gift for the beer lover in your life, but unsure if a Heineken branded set of glasses is going to cut it? If you are not a beer aficionado yourself it may be tricky to find the best beer gifts for that special person, since not all beer lovers are the same. Not unlike wine, there are many different types and styles of beer, and you can even make your own beer at home! Kegerators are a great way of enjoying draft beer at home, save money and it's probably something your beer loving mate hasn't ever considering buying for himself.
What Is A Kegerator
As you may have guessed by the name, a Kegerator is a draught beer dispenses that can be installed at a residential home, instead of the ones used at bars and pubs. It looks similar to a small fridge with an attached beer dispenses (a tap) and often includes a pressure meter so you can make sure the beer is kept in the best possible conditions. There are many different types of kegerators, from stand alone design ones to conversion kits to make a small fridge into a kegerator. Some are best suited for indoor use, and some for outdoor partying. But all of them allow you to enjoy a cold draught beer in the comfort of your home, and to keep draught beer kegs in optimal conditions for as long as possible.
Choosing The Right Kegerator
There are several things to consider when buying a Kegerator for a beer enthusiast. First of all, make sure that the one you buy is energy efficient. Kegerators are very much like a refrigerator, and will be working most of the time so one that is too noisy or eats up too much power is not going to make a good gift. Be kind to your friend and the environment and look for one that has good energy ratings.
Next step is making sure your friend's favourite beer comes in kegs that are compatible with the particular model you are considering. If you aren't sure what beer your friend likes you can just ask him or her for advice on what beer to buy for a party, they will often point to the brands they themselves prefer. Most keg makers are universally compatible with consumer level kegerators, but if you are unsure send a mail to the kegerator maker or ask at the shop and they'll be able to guide you from there.
There are Kegerators for outdoor use, indoor use and even some that can be converted into a normal refrigerator when not in use, which can be great if you are looking to buy a kegerator just for parties, for example. Look at the availability of spare parts as well, since if something breaks due to intensive use you don't want your friend to be unable to find spares to fix it.
Other Cool Beer Gifts
Not sure if your friend has room for a kegerator at home? There are many other great beer gifts to choose from. You could get them a subscription to a beer club, or even a kit to make their own beer at home (but check that they have the room for that first!). If you are low on budget, a book about traditional beers in Europe or the United States can also be a great gift for the beer aficionado.
